Air Jet Erosion Tester

  • Designed to determine the erosive mass loss of materials, and to study the erosion resistance of components used in the energy, aerospace and transport industries.

    The Ducom Air Jet Erosion Tester allows you to reproduce and control a wide range of operating parameters:

    • Temperature: from 23 to 1200°C
    • Particle flow speed: from 30 to 200 m/s
    • Particle flow: from 2 to 300 g/min
    • Particle impact angle: 15 to 90 degrees, which matches the actual working conditions in the above-mentioned industries.

    The Ducom Air jet Erosion Tester allows testing to ASTM G76-13 and ASTM G211-14 standards.

    FUNCTIONAL FEATURES OF THE INSTALLATION

    High temperature tests:

    The samples are heated using a high-temperature furnace with the ability to heat up to 1200° C. The air flow carrying particles can be heated to 1200° C using a spiral heater.

    Possibility of adjusting the flow rate and particle flow rate:

    The particle flow rate is controlled by a motor, a gear head and a belt assembly that connect under the hopper. The high-speed motor provides a flow rate in the range from 2 to 300 g/min. and flow rate up to 200 g/min.

    Adapter for determining the mechanical characteristics of a sample:

    Used to determine the tensile strength and fatigue strength of gas turbine components due to erosion by solid particles. A typical sample for tensile/bending testing has dimensions of 75x25x5 mm (other sample sizes are optional). The angle of attack of the particle is from 0 - 75 degrees. The distance from the nozzle to the sample is from 10 to 50 mm.

    OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF THE INSTALLATION

    Ducom Air Jet Erosion Tester consists of a compressed air flow control unit, a powder supply unit (hopper, blower, gear motor system, mixing chamber, nozzle), a temperature control unit (air heater, sample heater oven), a sample installation unit and a collection device powder (tray and exhaust air filter).

    In the mixing chamber, compressed air from the pneumatic regulator and solid particles from the feeder are mixed. The compressed air carries the solid particles in the steel pipe and exits through a nozzle connected to the pipe. Due to the difference in the diameter of the tube (larger) and the nozzle (smaller), directed particle flows are created that act on the sample. The length of the tubes is sufficient to avoid turbulence in the flow. The particle impact speed is controlled by changing the compressed air pressure. The rate of particle exit is controlled by the speed of the motor in the powder supply unit.

    Easy to use

    Easy replacement of nozzle and samples after testing. The ability to pre-program test parameters (particle flow rate, particle feed rate, sample temperature, test duration and angle of attack) allows the user to create experimental scenario templates. The pneumatic control system ensures automatic opening and closing of the furnace.

    Modular system

    The installation is designed on a block-modular principle. The user has the opportunity to purchase a basic kit and equip it with optional modules in accordance with emerging tasks.

    Control and data acquisition system

    The unit is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic controller that controls particle feed, air flow and test time at ambient temperature. The particle flow rate is controlled by the motor frequency and displayed on the control panel. The pressure of the air stream determines the speed of particle flow.

    In the high-temperature module, the furnace is integrated into the unit. During high-temperature tests, the furnace is moved using pneumatic drives. This module allows you to control and display the sample temperature using built-in thermocouples.
