Rocking Cell System
The RC5 Gas Hydrate Testing System is an automated system designed to test gas hydrates, select and analyze hydrate inhibitors, and test them for compatibility.
The RC5 test facility replicates the most aggressive conditions for testing hydrate inhibitors and corrosion inhibitors in the laboratory.
Application
- Development, testing and optimization of kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KHI);
- Study of the influence of corrosion inhibitors (CI);
How the system worksIt is based on the constant angular movement of cooled cells under pressure. These cells are called swing cells. The conditions of a real pipeline are simulated in swing cells. During the swinging process, the ball inside the cell continuously rotates and moves along the entire length of the test cell, mixing the fluid and gas. The movement of the ball causes significant shear stress and turbulence in the test chamber.
All test chambers are filled with a test fluid (water, oil, etc.) with the addition of a certain amount of inhibitor. The test chambers are cooled to a predetermined temperature. Gas is then introduced to pressurize each test chamber to 200 bar (2900 psi). The pressure in each test cell is set and maintained individually, independently of each other.
System design
5 test cells are mounted on a moving axis in a closed liquid cooling thermostat. During the experiment, only the axis performs a rotational reciprocating motion, the thermostat remains motionless. The design of the testing facility allows for the possibility of expanding the number of test cells to 10 pcs. The test cells are attached to the axle using magnets, so they can be easily removed for filling or cleaning.
Progress of the experiment- Simulation of flow conditions: test cells swing at controlled speed and angle of inclination. The experiment is carried out according to an adjustable temperature program with the possibility of step-by-step temperature increases.
- Suspension: The test chambers are fixed in a predetermined position (0° to 45°). The sample is cooled or heated to the required temperature.
- Restart test: The test cells resume swinging at the specified speed and angle of rotation and are cooled or heated to the specified temperature.
SoftwareThe system is equipped with specialized WinRC software, which registers, processes and records experimental parameters (temperature, pressure) and exports data conveniently for the user, and also provides the opportunity for detailed development of the experimental program. The flexibility of the experiment is achieved by varying the following parameters: temperature, rotation speed, rotation angle, test duration, suspension duration, test chamber position during suspension.
